Danielle and racism.

While the bitching and ganging up and nastiness from the girls towards Shilpa has been unpleasant to watch sometimes, even if I do believe Shilpa doesn't always help herself, it's still a little unfair.

I can see why Jade has issues with Shilpa and a lot of her points would ring true if she for one didn't have a group with her and shout them out everytime. This is a very intimidating way to have a discussion. Which really isn't a discussion anymore but an arguement. Shilpa isn't right about a lot of things and so isn't Jade. This has become a battle between 2 alpha females. Jade is using gang tactics which is low I think, but then it is a reality show and she wants to win.

Having Danielle with her has actually lost Jade's battle anyway. Jade should tell Danielle to shut it frankly. They all should. Which is why I have very little respect for Jade and Jo right now. Why people are sitting back allowing Danielle to say the racial things she is saying I don't know. That is beyond the realms of the game for me. You can see them all look uncomfortable for a second, then they suddenly laugh in an embarrassed sort of way. They're cowards. They should say something..

Big Brother has been a let down too in the sense that it should not allow racial expletives at all. Petty arguements and squabbling is one thing but the racial slurs are way over the mark.

Danielle should be warned and shown the back door.

I dont know if its racism or not. I havent seen anything that i would call racism, but i would call it bullying. Danielle is just trying to impress Jade. Its pathetic. Danielle, Jade and Jo should all be evicted asap!

Totally agree with your post Becki. I'm not sure that I'm entirely convinced by the racism claims, but it's definitely bullying, and that's bad enough IMO.

I felt really uncomfortable watching the clip of Jade shouting at Shilpa today on BBLB (which caused the live feed to go down for 45 mins). Sooo glad that Shilpa stood up for herself.

I doubt the fact that Shilpa is asian is a factor, but the fact that she is from a different culture with different standards of behaviour and codes of conduct. And the fact that she reacts differently to conflict etc, has definitely singled her out to be bullied by the mob.

I think Jermaines upbringing in the USA is leading him to misread the situation as regards the UK.
After all, Jade is mixed race and I'm sure had black and asian friends growing up. Probably the same for Danielle and Jo.

There's no excuse for their disgraceful behaviour though.

I think we all have different perceptions as to what is racist. Most of the quarreling in the house has been petty and I would say is bullying or racist.

However for me personally I draw my personal line when someone mocks a person's culture and everyone of that country by saying people there are sick because they eat with their fingers etc. This kind of talk not only displays gross ignorance but also shows very little respect and a low opinion of those people's cultures. This is racism to me.

It may not be as brutal as someone shouting, 'n____r', to someone's face, but why say negative things at all about her culture behind her back and not ask her directly if she was genuinely interested. Which I believe she isn't. If it was said in plain ignorance it would be another matter, but I don't think this is the case with Danielle. She has been consistence with her verbal attacks behind Shipla's back and I feel she went too far and intentionally with her race and culture, feigning innocence*, and for this reason I believe she is being racist.

Those are my views about it. Most of it isI believe is petty squabbling.

*She has admitted to travelling. Today she mentioned being in Bangkok so these questions are not genuine and more to provoke insult I believe. If she has travelled anywhere in the east she would know that eating habits amongst the classes are similar to anywhere else in the world. Utensils and foods may change but we eat a hotdog with our hands and they eat a samosa with theirs. They (chinese) use chopsticks and we use forks. If we're comfortable with the company we keep we might pick at their plate. Same over there.

For me personally, racism specifically means making a judgement about somebody based on their racial origins.
Cultural ignorance is something slightly different, but there's quite a fine line between them, and it's a matter of judgement as to what is going on here.

Whatever you call it, it is nasty.

and also danielle is trying to impress jade.. but when jades not around danielles sayin 2 shilpa: you know you can always talk too me you know.. shes being proper 2-faced.. i hope shes up 4 eviction..then she will know what we all think of her.. and lets hope she wil be evicted or she will be up everyones bum.. pretendin to be nice.. so the public like her.. well i aint changing my opinion of her.. i hate her.. I dont think they are racists (although I'm not sure about Jack) but I think they are vile bullies.

They are definitely culturally ignorant though.

The bullying does remind me of Ash's experience, when she had people slagging her off behind her back or being spiteful to her face.

I think if Ash was Asian, her treatment last summer would have produced a similar amount of disgust.

I was thinking the same thing, actually.

This sort of thing happens all the time on BB (Jodie, Aisleyne, Saskia...). It wasn't racially motivated in those cases and I don't think it's racially motivated now.

When Jade was blowing her top she should really have been called to the diary room and warned about intimidating behaviour.

It's interesting that it seems Danielle was the only one called in and pulled up about her "go home" comment.
That is the only bit of real racism that I've observed, and it genuinely seemed to shock Danielle that she had said it.
She certainly went very quiet afterwards and it provoked an attempt this morning to bury the hatchet.

Wether this will diffuse the situation, is another matter.

Whilst I believe a few low-level racist remarks were made, I do not believe that there was any racism.

It is an insult to the victims of racism to use that label in this case.

Nor was there any bullying. Shilpa is not the sort of woman that can be bullied.

What we did see is a lot of unpleasantness. It was awful & unacceptable, but that is all it was.

Of the 3 girls, I think Danielle's conduct & remarks have been by far the worse.

However, I am completely appalled & baffled at the over-reaction against these 3 woman. It is totally out of proportion to anything that they have actually said or done.

It is far more unpleasant than anything that they did. And I wish it would stop right away.
